Kapha Season

According to Ayurveda, the seasonal cycle of the year brings about a change in the predominance of the
Doshas in our bodies. This time of year, Late Winter and Spring, is governed by Kapha Dosha.
Kapha is the energy of Water and Earth – flow, compassion, stability, groundedness, and strength. This
dosha gives lubrication to the tissues, muscles, and joints, smoothness to the skin, stamina and immunity
to the whole body, and a sense of firmness and stability. Kapha governs all fluids and solid structures in
the body, controls growth and bulk, and is present in the heart, lungs, and brain. In excess, Kapha can
cause stagnation, rigidity, excess mucus, weight gain, dull skin, brain fog, malaise, depression, and
apathy.

Kapha Lifestyle Tips
DIET
Kapha’s digestion is the slowest of the three doshas.
Enjoy a diet of mostly light, warm, bitter, sour, or astringent foods, like bitter greens, legumes, light grains,
and seeds. Use warming spices such as cinnamon, peppers, and ginger. Avoid heavy, rich, and cold foods.
Eat smaller portions and avoid eating later in the day.
SELF-CARE
Kapha types should prioritize energizing and uplifting practices like dry sauna and dry-brushing. Spending
time outdoors and finding joy in movement can be beneficial.
SLEEP
Kapha people tend to oversleep. Try getting up very early at least a few times a week, and avoid napping
during the day.
EXERCISE
During Kapha Season, enjoy vigorous exercise and make time for movement you enjoy every day.
